CPN (Maoist Centre) Member of Parliament Rekha Sharma has objected saying that the government is going to make legal arrangements to give legal recognition to polygamy.
Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, MP Sharma said that it is wrong for the government to try to amend Article 175 of the Civil Code 2074 contrary to the women's rights granted by the constitution and the international treaties and conventions signed by Nepal as a party state. She said that the preparations being made by the Ministry of Law to give legal recognition to polygamy are not correct.
MP Sharma said, "The way the government is attacking the achievements of the people's movement and all kinds of women's movements". This is the Great Regression . I strongly object to this. I would like to draw attention not to advance the regressive bill regarding this.'
MP Sharma also made it clear that they will not accept regression.
