Sitting in a field in Machhimi, Musikot Municipality-3, Rukum West, a local Mansari Pariyar recited the original Jhari Bhaka. When her voice echoed here, those who were herding oxen in the field and transferring seeds from the fields turned towards her. And the nearby planters tried to cover the Bhaka. With this, the Asare Melo of Machhimi became musical for a while.

झारि असारे भाका हो । विशेषगरी खेतमा धान रोप्ने बेला हली–रोपारहरूले भाका मिलाएर गाउने मौलिक गीत हो । यो गीत अहिले गाउन छोडिएको छ । तर मनसरीको सम्झनामा ती स्मृतिहरू ताजै छन्, जतिबेला झारि भाकासँगै छुपुमा छुपु धान रोपिन्थ्यो । कामसँगै रमाइन्थ्यो । ‘पहिले खेत रोप्ने भनेको त एउटा पर्व जस्तै हुन्थ्यो । हलीदेखि रोपारसम्म भेला भएर झारी गाउँदै धान रोप्न कम्ता रमाइलो हुन्थेन ।’ उनले भनिन् ‘अब अहिले त हतार–हतार काम गर्ने झापझुप सकेर फर्किने हुन्छ । अब त न उस्तो झारीको रमाइलो छ, न रोपाइँको रंग ।’

झारि भाकाका गीतबारे गीतकार अरुणकुमार शाहले यो झन्डै ३ सय वर्ष पुरानो भएको तर्क गर्दै यो जुम्लाको सिंजाबाट आएको बताए । ‘धान रोप्न मेलोमा लागेका विशेषगरी महिलाहरूले यो यो भाका गाउने चलन थियो । एक जनाले अन्तरा निकाल्ने अनि अरूले त्यसैमा स्वर मिसाएर अन्तिमतिर ‘झारि...’ भन्दै गाउने गरिन्थ्यो ।’ उनी भन्छन्, ‘दिनभरि रोपिराख्नुपर्ने भएकाले थकाइ नलागोस् र समय बितेको पनि पत्तो नहोस् भन्नका लागि यो भाका गाउने चलन थियो । यसमा दोहोरी नै त हुन्थेन तर शब्दहरूमा दुःख–सुखका कुराहरु हुन्थे । लेकबेसी र मेलापातका चर्चा–परिचर्चा हुन्थे । तर यसको पुस्तान्तरण हुन सकेन र लोप हुँदै जान थाल्यो ।’

उसो त पछिल्लो समय झारि भाकासँगै खेतमा हुने धान रोपाइँको तौर–तरिकामा पनि धेरै बदलाव आएको किसान बताउँछन् । माछिमीकै वेलमती केसीले उहिले हली–रोपारदेखि गोरुको चहलपहलले खेत भरिने गरेकोमा अब भने एकातिर रोपाइँ हुने खेत घटेका छन् भने काम पनि मान्छेले भन्दा मेसिनले गर्ने बेला आएको बताइन् । ‘नाचगानमा मादल बजाउनेलाई गुरु मानेझैँ रोपाइँका बेला हलीलाई मुख्य मानिन्थ्यो, अब त आधाभन्दा धेरै काम ट्याक्टरले गर्दिन्छ । यसकारण दुःख पनि कम भएको छ । काम गर्ने युवा पनि त गाउँघरमा छैनन् ।’

रुकुम पश्चिममा कुल ३ हजार ४३ हेक्टरमा धान खेती हुने गरेको कृषि विकास कार्यालयले जनाएको छ । कार्यालयका सूचना अधिकारी दिवाकर गौतमका अनुसार गत शुक्रबारसम्म करिब ७८ प्रतिशत रोपाइँ सकिएको छ ।
