The Tamang community is celebrating the Sonam Lhosar i.e. New Year festival which is celebrated every year on the day of Magh Shukla Pratipada by organizing various programs. Sonam Lhosar is being celebrated by organizing various programs in Tundikhel of Kathmandu. Sonam Lhosar has been divided into 12 classes namely rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon (cloud), snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog and pig.
यस पर्वमा तामाङ समुदायले कुल पूजा, प्रकृति पूजा र बुद्धका सन्देशको स्मरण गर्नाका साथै आफन्तजन भेला भई मनोरञ्जन गर्दै आपसमा खुसी आदानप्रदान गर्ने गर्दछन् । मुलुकका विभिन्न स्थानमा बसोबास गर्ने तामाङसहित ह्योल्मो, थकाली, जिरेल, नेस्याङ्वा, भोटे, दुरा, लेप्चा आदि जातिहरूले समेत आ–आफ्नै शैली र परम्पराअनुसार यो पर्व मनाउँदै आएका छन् ।
