A strong press is needed in society to ensure the uncompromising exercise of civil rights, and that is the role that Kantipur has made its mission.

A glorious coincidence for Nepal, Kantipur, the guardian of democracy, was born on Falgun 7, the same day as the birth of democracy. Not only a witness to Nepali political change, Kantipur has entered its 34th year today, as a fellow traveler.
Whenever there has been an attempt to hijack the voice of the people, Kantipur has stood up as a spokesperson for democracy. It has fearlessly stood in favor of human rights during the Maoist armed conflict, in favor of multi-party rights during the royal rule, in favor of constitution writing after the peace agreement, and in favor of good governance after the declaration of the constitution.
Because freedom of expression, human rights, and the rule of law are not just paper terms, but rather the lifeblood of democracy. A strong press is needed in society to ensure the uncompromising exercise of civil rights, and Kantipur has made that role its goal.
Kantipur has been exposing not only the autocratic regime in power, but also the unrest that occurs within the guise of democracy. Kantipur's voice against the abuse of power and its abuse have also been running in parallel. In the meantime, those who have come to power for a long or short period of time have been abusing state power to prohibit questions about themselves.
Therefore, sometimes by abusing power, sometimes by inciting the feelings of the crowd, there have been retaliatory attacks on Kantipur. The attack on Kantipur during the riots of last 24 Bhadra is a link in that. However, while demanding action against the planners and perpetrators of the attacks on public institutions, industries, businesses and media houses and private property including the Supreme Court of the country, the Parliament building, Singha Durbar, the Ministry of Health, Kantipur has also given high priority to the call to hold accountable those responsible for the repression of unarmed protesters the previous day. No matter what the cost, Kantipur is unwavering in its professional journalism.
The country has been turning the corner on the foundation of every movement and rebellion. Nepali society has hoped that the country will turn the corner on good governance, transparency, public service delivery and accountability even after the Gen-G movement that took place this year. The country is currently engaged in elections to institutionalize the agenda of the movement. The competition between parties and candidates and the decision of voters are the most beautiful and powerful aspects of democracy.
The political parties and leadership that win the people's votes in the elections will not only have to form the government, but also accept the historical responsibility of ensuring good governance and accountability in the country, creating employment by increasing economic investment, and leading the country on the journey of prosperity by strengthening the economy. Kantipur will continue to fulfill the responsibility of disseminating accurate information and providing constructive reviews in this overall process.
The achievements achieved by Kantipur were not possible due to the sole initiative of the media house, but are the result of the collective initiative of our conscious readers and well-wishers, responsible entrepreneurs, active advertising agencies, and our journalists and employees who work day and night in their profession. We are grateful to all stakeholders. Everyone's trust and constructive criticism will continue to guide us in the coming journey.
