It can be seen that the social media platform TikTok is being used by women in a creative and entertaining way. The dancing, singing, dialogue delivery, etc. can even seem like acting.
Along with such presentations, social media is also sending a positive message in terms of the changing consciousness of women, physical exercise to keep themselves refreshed, and the entrepreneurship being demonstrated by women. Although I have been deeply observing the various aspects of women and the messages they give on TikTok and that media, I have not been able to do anything creatively. The methods and techniques adopted by women and girls in the election and in the campaigning for the candidate they vote for are also worthy of praise. While scrolling, I caught the eye of a woman's TikTok video. She has expressed her anger that her husband has been busy with the election campaign for a few days and has not done any research on her. She says - Should I just go away or what? Or has my husband trusted me more than he should and lived comfortably? She adds - I have to sit and cry for his children. Even if the woman spoke someone else's voice, she spoke the feelings of ordinary Nepali women.
In many villages, the election has heated up the settlements. Men are sitting in the squares and drinking tea and talking about the election. Some men have worked day and night with the candidates to campaign for the election. Men are seen in the crowds and crowds. It also seems that the election festival has affected men more. Although women are also in politics, they have become candidates, but much less than the population and the constitution have prescribed.
It is said that the goal of sustainable development can be achieved only if women participate equally in politics and public life, but if we look at the situation in Nepal, it seems that women who have come forward for women's participation in politics and public life have had to face extremely difficult situations due to various economic, social, and cultural environments. The history of women playing a significant role in politics by becoming allies and fellow warriors dates back to the Rana period in Nepal. The presence and participation of young women was also notable in the Gen-G movement of last Bhadra 23 and 24. The Gen-G movement has also given a mandate to run the government by trusting a woman, and this government is also taking positive initiatives for the upcoming elections.
It is said that the Sustainable Development Goals can be achieved as a whole only if women participate equally in politics and public life. Looking at the presence of women in executive positions around the world, as of September 12, 2025, 32 women in 29 countries serve as heads of state or government. Only 6 countries have 50 percent or more women in parliament in the single or lower house. Of these, 64 percent in Rwanda, 56 percent in Cuba, 55 percent in Nicaragua, 50 percent in Andorra, 50 percent in Mexico, and 50 percent in the United Arab Emirates.
Various efforts have also been made to expand women's participation in politics and public life. According to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the internationally agreed upon goal, balanced political participation and power sharing between women and men in the decision-making process is also one . Nepal is also a participating country in the Beijing Declaration . Although most countries in the world have not been able to achieve gender equality, gender quotas have made a significant contribution to the progress of women's participation . In Nepal too, a reservation system for the women's community has been decided .
In order to find out how much women are aware of politics, what their understanding of the country and the political system is, there should be a discussion within the family and even between husband and wife about the candidates who have given their candidacy for elections in their own society .
The change in the role given to women by society is that women are mainly involved in household chores and going out to earn money . Apart from that, the practice of raising women's voices to discuss other developments, politics, and other policies and regulations made in other countries has not yet been established . Let's look at a small example - village families live in the city. During festivals, weddings, Shraddha, etc., women go to and from village houses. Elections are also celebrated as a kind of festival in our country by asking for votes, dancing, and feasting. However, now, when adult family members have to go to the village to vote, only some male family members can be seen going. This small example shows that women have not yet been able to gain importance in politics or voting.
The network has been showing photos and election symbols to women who know how to use social media to get information about their candidates. But women do not have the time to study and reflect on the election and post-election agendas of those candidates. Candidates and supporters who are campaigning seem to be running around in circles and making jokes rather than educating and teaching women, senior citizens, and civil society how to vote. As the slogan says, before choosing, all women and men, marginalized groups, sexual and gender minorities, senior citizens, and people with disabilities, should know. But men at home do not communicate with their wives, mothers, and sisters. However, if they have become big leaders outside, they certainly seem to be indifferent to issues like women's elections, politics, and voting. And, sometimes, polite protest reels can be seen on social media like TikTok.
The view that the patriarchal society views young women who have shown their excellent participation in politics by fulfilling their natural and social roles can be understood from the abuse and obscene words in the 'comment section' on social media. It is imperative for women to keep informed and interested in the country's situation. Even if we calculate the population of Nepal, the number of women seems to be high, but their involvement in politics is decreasing instead of increasing. We women also need to show interest in political matters to understand the new and old women who have emerged in politics, their contributions, and the work they do in the field of women. The election atmosphere is there. We need to be aware of women candidates like Mina Kharel, Nisha Adhikari, Renu Dahal, Sobita Gautam, and other women across the country to investigate their views, opinions, contributions, and how much work they will do for women in the coming days. As conscious citizens, let women also understand politics or try to understand it. Let male family members talk politics with female members at home too. Let us implement the principle of gender equality from the ground up and from home.
