No society is free from crime. Even in societies that are said to be developed and have reached the height of civilization, one can read and hear about crime incidents. However, the causes, nature, and rate of such incidents may vary from society to society.

Police research and statistics confirm that heinous murders have started happening in our country even in ordinary disputes. This exposes the terrifying side of the psychology of Nepali society. First, murders are being committed for reasons like this, which is a worrying situation in itself.

Second, the rate at which murders are taking place, the emotional trauma and economic-social losses caused to the concerned family/society are also a factor to consider. The nature and rate of murders clearly show that Nepali society is seeking a new role for the presence of the state. It also sends a message that the interaction between individuals, families and groups in society needs to be redefined in a new way and made credible and interactive accordingly.

According to police statistics, 178 people have been murdered in the first four months of the fiscal year 2082/83. That is, on average, three people have been murdered every two days. Similarly, 522 people were murdered in 2081/82, 638 in 2080/81, 522 in 2079/80, 684 in 2078/79 and 707 in 2077/78. There is no major reason for such murders.

It has been revealed that Garjaman Thapa, who went missing on Saturday and was found dead on Monday, was murdered with the intention of stealing a ring. Vijay Rai of Sindhuli was murdered on Saturday itself, and the reason for that is said to be a dispute over lighting a fire. Similarly, Maya Magar alias Ayusha was murdered on the night of 23 Kartik over a dispute over Rs 500. These are some representative incidents, where murder is unexpected. Similarly, there are also incidents where a dispute escalates and leads to murder due to drunkenness.

The context of the murder shows that people have taken the initiative to kill each other in personal disagreements. The restraint of listening patiently to the arguments of others and presenting their own arguments politely has started to break from people. It is natural for different people to have different beliefs and misunderstandings. When we make others agree with our arguments, agree with the arguments of others or respect the beliefs of others,

When we move forward in our own way, the dispute should not turn into anger. But that generosity is also disappearing in people. People are becoming intolerant and harsh, and it seems that the strong impulse to seek satisfaction only by killing those who disagree with them has flourished. In addition, the immense greed for property is also a frightening aspect. Even family members are being killed due to claims on shares or property. Due to alcohol consumption, disputes and murders have occurred not only between friends, but also between family members.

Generally, after any society is consumed by a conflict based on murder and violence, the mentality of the people is disturbed. A society that has seen and suffered a large number of unnatural deaths of people in a short period of time has a history of experiencing all other types of crimes as aftershocks. The political aspect and achievements of the Maoist armed conflict are in place, but even after it ended the conflict, the same nature of murder and violence continued in society.

Even after 2063, the tendency of new groups to open up, collect ransoms and kill under their guise, continued. The activities of many groups that were given political cover were criminal in nature. At that time, more than a hundred groups had emerged in the Terai region, many of which had terrorized the Terai region through the use of weapons and killings. The morale of the police, which had declined during the conflict, gradually recovered, and later, after aggressive investigation and action were intensified, such groups became weak.

The morale of the police has not been strong in recent times either. There have been incidents of politicization, defamation, and attacks on the police themselves. During the Gen-G movement, acts such as burning police posts, forcing police to take off their clothes, snatching weapons, and killings occurred. This has had an impact on the police and society.

A situation has arisen where people with criminal mindsets consider it easy to engage in criminal activities. Corruption, unemployment, fraud, and ambition have also increased anger and frustration among people. The easy availability of technology has also given people access to both right and wrong information. Due to the lack of effective implementation of the law, illegal activities and businesses have also been encouraged. This has also increased dissatisfaction and conflict in society. That has also sometimes led to murders. The state itself should be able to work in a way that reduces citizen dissatisfaction. Which leads citizens not to dissatisfaction, but to positive hope.

In the past, criminal activities reduced by organized groups were reduced as the related groups became weaker. The police's activism was successful for that. But now, people are taking their lives on impulse without prior planning.

It is no longer as easy as disabling groups. First, the government itself should make a strategic plan to increase trust and morale in the police. Second, the police cannot just investigate crimes after they have been committed in a technical and traditional way. Because it is certain that investigations after crimes will not reduce the number of crimes.

We must work to prevent crimes from happening. For that, the relationship and interaction of the police with the society must be strengthened. The presence of the police in society must be increased to prevent crimes from happening. Earlier, programs like Police My Friend, Police with a Smile, and Community-Police Partnership had connected the police and the society. Similar and more creative programs should be introduced. This also increases trust in the police, and information about possible crimes is received. To study and research the psychology of society, a separate group should also be formed within the police.
