Although at the beginning of the movement, there was consensus on the demand for the lifting of the then government's ban on social media, the establishment of good governance, and an end to corruption, the evolving political developments have not been able to address everyone's aspirations. Questions have also been raised about the agreement between the government and Gen-G.

The Gen-G movement has sown the seeds of political consciousness among the youth. Looking at the political developments and social environment of the country in the last four months, it can be seen that the interest of the youth in politics has increased. Since the aim of the movement is not only to change the government but also to bring about changes in the situation of the country, it is natural that the interest of the general youth in politics has increased.
Although everyone was unanimous in demanding the lifting of the ban imposed by the then government on social media, good governance, and an end to corruption at the beginning of the movement, the evolving political developments have not been able to address everyone's aspirations. The agreement between the government and Gen-G has also been questioned.
However, after the Gen-G movement, the youth have also felt responsible. As the entire country is seeking answers and a way out from Gen-G, they are sharpening their young minds. Youth have made an important contribution to every change in Nepal. The young generation, which has always been only a stepping stone for a certain group to power, has emerged as a decisive force this time. This has increased the responsibility of Gen-G even more.
For a long time, Nepal had a tradition of older leaders leading the country. In every party and organization, decisive participation seemed weak compared to the contribution of the young generation. However, times have changed now. A debate has now begun on the meaningful participation of youth in every political force. For a democratic country like Nepal, meaningful participation of youth in decision-making is a very positive aspect.
Philosopher Karl Mannheim has said, ‘Each generation builds political consciousness through the crises, changes, and struggles of its time.’ Once upon a time, the generation was fighting against superstition and evil. Now times have changed. Gen-G is fighting for equality, identity, and meaningful participation.
The young generation of this digital age wants to see great results in a short time. Rather than reading long articles, documents, and newspapers, they want to understand things through a few-second video on social media like TikTok and Facebook. From this, they
are also forming their opinions and decisions. This generation, which is getting used to the rapid development of technology, is awakening its consciousness through maximum use of technology. This generation, which has entered the era of artificial intelligence, has been reducing the distance between access to information. This has accelerated the development of their political consciousness and has also made their political consciousness stronger and more sophisticated.
The real test is in the crisis. At a time when the country is facing an unexpected crisis, the prudent efforts of civil society have temporarily averted the crisis to some extent. It seems that we should learn from the past 10 years of armed people's war that if no immediate solution is sought to overcome any political conflict or crisis, it can have long-term effects. In a democracy, it is considered wrong to engage in politics of prohibition against anyone. Therefore, it is the need of the day to find a solution through a system of clean democratic competition while respecting the freedom of expression of the individual. It seems that the youth should also consider this.
The election to the House of Representatives has been scheduled for 21 Falgun. In order to bring the country from the crisis situation after the Gen-G movement to a state of normalization, it is imperative that the election be held peacefully, fearlessly and with enthusiastic broad public participation.
As the Election Commission is accelerating the preparations for the election and moving ahead according to the schedule, the youth should play a role from their respective places to make the election successful on the scheduled date rather than getting bogged down in the uncertainty of the election. It is important for youth to understand the situation where they can be used by vested interests if they cannot use their own discretion. For this, youth need to have general knowledge about the country's geography, history, economy, art and culture, as well as law and global politics.
Youth also need to be logical. Since logic can only be formed from a combination of accurate information and personal opinions, it seems that the youth should pay attention to that. The new generation should be able to learn from a review of past movements or rebellions. The student movement in 2036 BS had led the country to a referendum on the option of a multi-party democratic system or a reformed Panchayat system.
Although the result was the opposite. Now we are going through exactly the same situation. Instead of the change that has been protested for, the old trend may even be approved. More than 70 people have lost their lives and thousands have been injured in the Gen-G movement. It should be understood that no one has the right to ignore this level of sacrifice and sacrifice made for the progress and development of the state.
Youth should self-assess their qualifications and abilities and present their claims for any position only if they have the strength and plan to address the demands and demands in the spirit of the movement, otherwise they should even pave the way for those with the ability. Even the old parties should utilize the movement as an opportunity to correct themselves instead of taking it as a momentary impulse or excitement.
It seems that it would be easier to reach the people if future plans can be made by emphasizing youth participation in line with the spirit of the movement. Since this is an environment created by special circumstances, not ordinary circumstances, we should be able to put the interests of the nation above our personal interests. If we can question democracy and hold the leadership accountable, we can prevent politics from becoming dirty.
From the struggle to lead the movement after the Gen-G movement to the formation of alternative forces, the role of the youth seems average, but if they do not exercise wisdom and discernment in the future journey, there is a risk that the achievements made in the foundation of the movement will be lost and will not be institutionalized. Not only this, but it cannot be said that the country will always be in a state of transition.
We should learn from other countries how risky it is for any country to prolong the transition period. In this regard, it seems necessary for the Gen-G youth to understand in time and use wisdom to find the way forward with restraint. The next elected government should continue to be vigilant about ending impunity and taking legal action based on the commission's report.
