Scientific research is essential, not conspiracy theories about arson

It is the right of citizens to demonstrate forcefully for their rights, but why was the movement misused to create chaos in society? Reliable research is also necessary for the reputation of Gen-G.

It has been over a month since the Gen-G movement brought about a power upheaval. But the mystery of the arson, vandalism, and looting that occurred on the second day has not been solved. Why was there a brutal crackdown on young people who took to the streets, especially against corruption? How did it turn into arson, vandalism, and looting despite the expectation of a massive demonstration the next day? Nepali society has not received a satisfactory answer.

Nepali society has never seen such a huge human and material loss caused by humans in a span of a few hours. Therefore, scientific investigation of all the incidents from the deaths to the arson on 23 and 24 Bhadra is indispensable.

The most influential platform for the Gen-G movement on 23 Bhadra was ‘Discord’. This is where the movement was born, and the movement was directed from here. However, it has been seen that some people are active in turning the peaceful movement of Gen-G against corruption into violence.

They have made statements such as teaching people how to make Molotov cocktails (petrol cocktail bombs), encouraging them to use them, smuggling weapons, setting fire to national property and people’s homes, assassinating leaders, looting ministerial quarters, and blowing up petrol pumps inside the airport. It is the right of citizens to demonstrate powerfully for their rights, but why was the movement misused to create chaos in society? Reliable investigation is also necessary for the reputation of Gen-G.

Active participation in discussions under pseudonyms has encouraged violent activities. The purpose of these users to make the movement violent has now become a matter of widespread interest. Who are these users? What is their intention to incite violent activities, from manufacturing weapons to smuggling? Are their expressions natural anger seen during the movement or do they have a suspicious background? Was there an attempt to incite the situation by keeping their identities secret? If the government searches, it can find out the detailed details of these users. If the person is identified and further investigated, many mysteries will be solved.

Words like sodium, chemical, weapon, Molotov have been used repeatedly in the 'Discord' dialogue before the arson on 24 Bhadra. The repeated discussion of petrol bombs, the protesters carrying them in a systematic manner, and the use of petrol bombs in different places indicate that there was preparation. There is a strong suspicion that various chemicals may have been used to burn down important buildings of the nation. A serious investigation is required for that. The police are waiting for the report of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory to confirm whether chemicals were used or not. They have sent some samples to the laboratory and are still collecting and sending some. A 9-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of SP Kazi Kumar Acharya of the Valley Crime Investigation Office. The government has also formed a commission under the chairmanship of former Special Court President Gauri Bahadur Karki. Reports from the laboratory to the commission are expected to answer many mysteries.

There is no doubt that the truth of the repression on 23 Bhadra should come out and the culprits should be taken to the fullest extent. Similarly, there should be a rigorous investigation into those who incited the protest on 24 Bhadra. Whether or not chemicals were used in the arson can also be clarified through investigation. In foreign countries, samples are collected from the debris of arson and the truth of what chemicals were used is found out through forensic examination. The same practice is necessary in Nepal now too.

Since arson occurred all over the country on 24 Bhadra, collecting samples is not a difficult task, although there has been a delay in this. However, this is not just a question of utilizing technological development, but also a responsibility towards society. Because the truth and facts of such a big incident should be revealed as much as possible. Nepalis should not be in a position where they carry the burden of conspiracy without knowing the authentic details of the movement that took place before them. If there was a conspiracy, who did it and how? If it was natural, how the situation came to be like that must be revealed. How such incidents were carried out, how they were technically possible must also be revealed. This is necessary to unravel the mystery of the current incident and to be aware of the future.
