Domestic violence is when a person inflicts physical, mental, sexual or financial torture on another person with whom he has a domestic relationship. Domestic violence can involve men, women, children, senior citizens in the family. However, in a patriarchal society like ours, girls and women are more affected and affected.

All-round development of women has been hindered due to violence such as suspicion from within the family, unnecessary insults, deprivation of opportunities, abuse and exploitation, discrimination, and control.

In the absence of respect, protection, motivation and opportunity in their own families, capable women are also forced to stay indoors. Even socially prominent women are not able to give enough time to fulfill their responsibilities due to distrust, suspicion, control-oriented thinking and behavior of the family . Women are forced to act and behave according to their intentions and desires rather than their abilities, skills and interests. How can we support the empowerment of women forced to live within the narrow circle of the family?

When women break the certain boundaries of the house and come out, join the social, economic and political fields, then they are viewed with suspicion. The family puts unnecessary insults, gives mental stress, puts pressure . Due to the practice of accusing everyone or explaining from a different point of view about a single incident in the society, women are not able to independently improve their abilities, develop leadership, skills and attitudes . How can women who do not get the opportunity to work with high morale become competitive in every field?

Last July 30, a husband killed his wife with a knife in Vinayi Triveni Rural Municipality-3. His behavior towards his wife, who is also a socially respected representative of the past, always looked suspiciously, made accusations, abused him and exceeded the limit. Similarly, 28-year-old Santosh Century, a resident of Budhanilkanth Municipality-2, killed his wife at a hotel in Gongbu. These are representative events only. Even though there is an option of divorce, there are incidents of beating, abuse, violence and even killing women. This is a matter of great concern.

In a family that does not accept the existence of women, does not participate in the decision-making process, does not respect the opinion, the possibility of women's development in that family is low . Due to the different behavior of sons and daughters in the process of socialization, their personality development is affected . Sons are fearless, brave, self-confident, but daughters are brought up with the impression that they are weak, loving, and always at risk. The way they are educated, initiated and treated, the personality will be developed .

Even in the 21st century, women running the household, being smarter and more capable than their husbands, shouldering social responsibilities, being active in politics, and being involved in employment or self-employment are not easily accepted by the family . It is from the family that the moral and honest women who can face and respond to problems and challenges feel and make them feel that there is a risk at every moment. Life will be easy only with the cooperation of both husband and wife, that is, the common existence, but until women are seen only as helpers and subordinates of men in the family, obstacles are created in the development of women's abilities .

With entering the age of science and technology, many daughters are not able to be born on this earth, they are discovered in the womb with embryo identification. Some born daughters have become victims of sexual abuse by their own fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers and sisters. Due to dowry system, child marriage and Chhaupadi system, how many girls and women have died innocently and some are forced to feel that they are dying even after living. Due to the dowry system, some families take their daughters as a burden, while some women are subjected to violence day by day.

Many initiatives have been taking place at the local, national and international levels for women's development. There are no policy, legal, and structural arrangements necessary to promote women's rights . For equality, programs, budget, reservation, proportional representation and other special opportunities have also been arranged by the state .

Due to such initiatives in women's empowerment, participation has increased in every sector, but active participation has not been possible as expected. There is political representation but the decisive role has not increased . Economic activity is increasing but the voice has not been strengthened. Therefore, in addition to efforts from the state level for women's development, it is also necessary to make the environment at home women-friendly.
