Football is considered to be the most popular sport around the world. Competitions like the World Cup, Euro Cup and Copa America and the global discussion of various leagues are references that confirm the popularity of football.

Tournaments in every country play a role in keeping players busy, providing opportunities for financial income, increasing interest in the game, and making small and large scale economies run. But it has become normal not to have a league in Nepal. As a result, the 'craze' created by football is affecting the moral development of the players.

belongs to the oldest and most organized competition in Nepali sports history, the Nepal Martyrs Memorial Football League. This is the official football league of Nepali football. It has four categories. 'A', 'B' and 'C' Divisions. Along with selection of 'C' division.

All these are interconnected and all need to exist. Among them, 'A' Division is the highest structure of Nepali League football. Martyrs Memorial League started in 2011. In that sense, its history is more than seven decades old. Having said that, the biggest weakness of this competition is that it is not organized regularly.

The last edition of the 'A' division ended on 27th May 2080. Since then there has not been another edition and there have been more than 800 days without an 'A' division league. If we consider the last 12 years as a base, then the 'A' Division League has been organized four times in total, while it should have been held 12 times during this period.

In this way, in the last more than a decade, a certain national level player has been able to play in the 'A' division league four times. This is a very disappointing and unimaginable situation. This situation has affected Nepali football as a whole very badly.

Considered the backbone of any country's football, the league. Just like a person without a backbone cannot rise, Nepali football has not yet risen to develop and expand its level, because there is no league football here. The league aims to professionalize, expand and popularize football in any country. As long as there is no league football in Nepal, if someone says that he worked for football, it will be a lie.

League football is not regular every year and the most affected are the players, coaches, referees and the technical aspects connected with it. There is widespread frustration among football players due to the absence of a league. Their way of earning is stopped. Because of this, many football players have stopped playing. Many of them have migrated abroad. Even those who say they play football are not playing well. It is necessary for the concerned parties to be serious when the players themselves have started saying that nothing will happen after playing football.

Nepali football has never been able to achieve its potential and expected results. There can be only one obvious reason for this and that is, no regular annual organization of league football in Nepal. When there is no league, it becomes natural that the football game does not develop. If someone accuses the apex body of the game, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) of not doing its job, that too is right, because it does not do league football.

As soon as there is no internal competition, the performance of the national team is directly affected. It has been a long time since the Nepali men's team has not been able to do anything good in international football. For many years now, Nepali football has been out of the limelight in internal or external competitions. If we leave the women's football, the football game has not been able to give energy. As far as the situation is concerned, there is an open call to select players for the national team. The current head coach, Ross Matt, adopted a similar method some time ago, because league football, which is the main way to test players, is not happening. 

is the main question, whose fault is it? It also has a straightforward answer, ANFA itself. ANFA's main job is to organize regular league football, but it is not able to do that. The blame lies not only with ANFA, but with everyone associated with Nepali football.

No one is creating pressure as to why league football could not happen. Most of the stakeholders don't care about league football. As everyone knows, Nepali football has controversy, conflict, division and extreme politics. As much as the founding party is guilty of not having a league, they will consider themselves as a separate category. Everyone is focused on going abroad, taking advantage and strengthening their position, no one has been able to explain why the league did not happen. Even the government has not been able to ask ANFA why the league did not take place.
