The institution of marriage that the government does not understand

It is ironic and shameful that a person sitting at the responsible level of the government should limit even a profound issue to a simple tea gossip and give an expression that promotes polygamy by giving incompatible arguments.

Marriage is a universally important social affair. Marriage has social, religious and legal significance. Sociologists say that marriage began to regulate human sexual relations. There are also those who define it as a social institution established to establish and care for the family.

Even according to Hinduism, marriage is viewed on the basis of religious sanctity rather than materialism. If we look at its development, today's form of marriage did not develop all at once. For this, different types of marriages were prevalent at different times in history according to the nature of the society. He also had a special importance at that time.

Marriage has been playing an important role in order to run the society smoothly, reduce social problems, and control social distortions. Marriage is of special importance to move human life forward in a practical environment, to usher in maturity. Therefore, in the past, it was customary to marry off children who had reached the age of birth if they fell into a bad clan. This made the person feel responsible and take a good path. At that time, there was no system of correctional centers to keep people trapped in Kulat. Therefore, marriage was one such thing, which would have played an important role in leading the bad person in the right direction.

Friedrich Engels discusses the publication of Bachofen's book 'Matriarchy' in his book 'Family, Private Property and the Origin of the State'. It was only after this that the study of family history began. According to him, in the beginning, the human race was sexually promiscuous, due to which it was very difficult to find out who the father of the child was.

As a solution to this, the practice of genealogy using the mother's name began. Because of this, Bachofan mentioned that the domination of women in the society began. This process resulted in a single birth parent in the new generation. Later, the tradition of group marriage gradually changed to monogamy. It had a very positive effect on the society and the matriarchal society turned into a patriarchal society.

Polygamy was completely prohibited from August 1, 2075 after the implementation of the Criminal Code. In the situation where this law is playing an important role in taking care of Nepali society's value, recognition, tradition, family, relationship between husband and wife, love, children, and senior citizens, how would it be appropriate to reverse this rule and introduce a polygamy rule? This is sure to have a negative impact on family life, disputes over property, murders, violence, rifts in relationships, children and the elderly in the coming days.

It seems that various kinds of distortions and anomalies are happening in the society with these rules. Today we are talking about women's rights, equality, equality. It seems that women will be more exploited and victimized in the future. It can create various types of stress in women's personal and professional life, so that there is no doubt that there is a dark cloud of inconsistency in today's beautiful society.

When we are talking about social development and progress, it is interesting how we came to think of going back to the wild age. It is not certain that the importance of family and kinship is diminishing in human society. Such proposed bills cannot be expected other than bringing distortions to the society.

Today's society needs to move forward towards progress. It seems that those who have reached high positions are trying to make rules and laws for their personal interests rather than the interests of the people or the community as a whole. When listening to the arguments given by the Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Paraswar Dhungana, regarding the law of polygamy, many questions have started to arise in our minds that in which society or culture we have been brought up.

Marriage is a personal freedom, so don't promote such activities that cause distortion in the society. Man is a social animal. The decision he makes not only affects his personal life but also affects society as a whole. Therefore, even if some social things look personal, they carry social meaning and importance.

A person sitting in a respected and responsible position cannot say cheap things just because it came to his mind or under pressure. It is also important to consider the impact it will have on society and the community. Even the people who are in the responsible level of the government should make public statements only after studying and thinking about such sensitive issues. Actually, our forefathers made rules like marriage, family and kinship to organize the sex life and in the course of time there were various changes in it and now we have reached the system of monogamous marriage. It has also been having a positive impact on society.

Polygamy is not legally recognized in any civilized society in the world. Polygamy has been completely banned in Nepal since 2075 with great force. Now to maintain it again is a shameful situation in front of the world. Former Law Minister Madhav Prasad Paudel's opinion is timely. Similarly, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki said that this proposed system is trying to revive the old belief of patriarchy that men can have as much as they want, and the discussion that it will increase violence against women is mind-boggling. The proposal of polygamy has also confirmed the saying, as the elders say, "Whose hand is the dadupanyu, that is the bolwala".

Not only women but also men are protesting against polygamy. Earlier, the elders did not use the saying 'Dui Joiko Poi Kuna Pasi Roi'. Cases of polygamy creating various tensions and being forced to commit suicide are also becoming public.

Why is the government shutting its ears when the proposed polygamy bill is being opposed from parliament to the streets? Who brought such a law for whom, for what purpose and in whose interest? It is important to clarify. Social media is now heated with opposition to the proposed polygamy. It is necessary for women to oppose it more strongly and protest more through Tiktok, Reel etc.

When sex workers should be legally recognized and when street women will be saved, if polygamy is proposed, where will the society reach? When making any bill or rule, it is necessary to study and research what kind of class, region and caste people will be affected by that rule, and what are its long-term effects. No Bill should be introduced on the basis of any individual or group. The law should think about the rights and interests of the people as a whole. Otherwise, based on this, the society may be a victim of various types of violence and deviation.

It is ironic and shameful that a person sitting at the responsible level of the government should limit such a profound issue to a simple tea gossip and give an expression that promotes polygamy by giving incompatible arguments. If you don't think about the impact it will have in the future, there will be no reason to regret it later.
