Through mobile phones and the Internet, news can be exchanged instantly from any corner of the world using social media. Online shopping, online banking, bill payment, ease of use of vehicles and opportunities for choice have also expanded.

Through the use of social media, people have acquired knowledge and skills by studying various subjects online. There are also plenty of examples of people who do school and university level academic studies online in the morning and evening and join a profession in the afternoon to continue their employment . Similarly, using platforms like Facebook, Tik Tok or Instagram, they have succeeded in showing their abilities by producing and distributing content suited to their knowledge and skills. Some have also made this platform a means of promoting their business .

The more use of such technology has started to increase after the lockdown and people have to stay indoors for a long time. At that time, educational institutions all over the world were operated online. Various service provider offices started providing services online. Even after the covid period, people have also started earning income by using social media platforms to expand their business through 'content creation'.

The revolution of technology development that makes the mind talk through the machine has also made the concentration of the mind waver . Dependence on technology like AI to know even the smallest things, the original creativity of the person is disappearing . Social media has limited people's social relationships to technology. Although the virtual relationship between people has become closer, the physical and emotional relationship and closeness has been cut off.  In the process of going viral, the

is also causing many nuisances and spreading social distortions. There is a tendency to waste time by watching videos on social media while doing daily work and not feeling that time is wasted, which also leads to discord in the family and neglect in the society.

Some teenage children unknowingly violate personal privacy and become victims of cybercrime while using social media. A person's eyes are affected by using mobile phones, gadgets and advanced technology for a long time. Senior Ophthalmologist Dr. According to Sanduk Ruit, looking continuously at the mobile or computer screen causes the eyes to become dry and the eyes get strained and it becomes difficult to see.

Recently, the number of social media users in Nepal has been increasing tremendously . According to the 2025 study of the Data Report, which collects and analyzes global data on digital activity, the number of active social media users in Nepal is 143 million, i.e. 48.1 percent of the total population.

The government of Nepal has introduced new rules to regulate the use of social media. The government has issued guidelines for managing the use of social media, 2080, in accordance with section 79 of the Electronic Transactions Act, 2063. It is mentioned in the guidelines that network platform operators should renew their licenses every three years and develop an 'algorithm' so that advertisements that are against the laws of Nepal do not come to users.

It is necessary to use social media while conducting every aspect of life in a balanced manner. Lifestyle can be further strengthened and enriched by using your original knowledge, skills and abilities, not depending only on technology.
