A woman from far away who lived in agony

In the Far West, women are forced to live with some kind of pain in every house. There is no hospital near the house. Even if there is a hospital somewhere, there is no transport facility to reach there. They are also suffering from different kinds of pain of having to stop menstruating and still having to sleep side by side.

A woman from far away who lived in agony

There is a village that can be reached in 15 minutes on foot from Tripurasundari Temple, a tourist area in Baitadi in Sudurpaschim Province. Most of the women in this village are still forced to live in various physical pains. Just last year, an elderly mother passed away after almost two years.

Although the district hospital referred him to the provincial hospital Dhangadhi for further treatment of the stomach, his son, who was earning his livelihood by doing normal farming in the hilly areas, was forced to wait for his death in the backyard as his financial condition could not bring him there. The younger mother of the same house, who has been living a single life for a few years, also died last year after falling from a tree while cutting apples.

While going to mow the grass of the aunt of the upper house, she slipped and broke her leg. After being treated at District Hospital Baitadi, he was not well. Even after being taken to Pithoragarh Hospital in India two or three times, he was not cured. For the past one and a half years, even though he has walked a little, he is unable to eat and work in the village due to swelling and pain in his legs. Uncle does everything from cooking to watering the cattle. A sister-in-law of the same village fell from a tree a few months ago. While cutting apples for the goats, one of her arms was broken when she fell from a tree to a stone in the river, and she could not even walk to the toilet for a month due to a severe injury to her waist. A relative had to send a wheelchair with a commode to Baitadi from Mahendranagar. When going to the district hospital, Gothalapani, the doctor said that "only if the hand is operated, it will be straightened, otherwise it may become crooked even if bandaged". She stayed in the village saying that even though it was more crooked than running from Baitadi to the state hospital Dhangadhi for the operation after spending a large amount of money, she stayed in the village.

A woman from the same village committed suicide 6 months ago. The 30-year-old had two children. Even if there is no problem at first glance, doctors believe that he may be living in depression.

A mother of the same village has lost the sight of one eye due to rheumatism. As the treatment for rheumatism could not be done at the district hospital, the daughter was taken to Kathmandu and was treated and was taking medicine from there. The doctor said that he had to lose his eyesight because of the lack of that facility in the village, even though he had to take blood tests and increase the dosage from time to time. At the age of 80, it will be difficult for him to walk, and on top of that, losing one of his eyes has added pain to his pain.

Although the government provides health insurance services for free treatment, few people in this village have the knowledge of how to get that service and where to go to get it. There are many households in this village who do not even have the funds for insurance.

Alzheimer's (forgetting disease) causes some mothers to suffer even more in old age . Three mothers who are related to me are victims of this disease . Forgetting to eat, not knowing when to go to the toilet, not knowing relatives, leaving the house and walking, even the members of his family are facing problems.

One brother of that village always drinks alcohol. He has been drinking for 30 years . He has not been able to get rid of that addiction yet. The family is shocked by this habit. Even though he has been sent to the correctional center in Dhangadhi many times to get rid of alcohol addiction, nothing has changed in him . The wife's pains are in their own place . The days of that family are spent in constant quarrels and worries.

The suffering of the family of Dai, another driver who drives jeeps in different places of Baitadi, is not less painful. They earn thousands a day. But he is so addicted to alcohol that even while driving a jeep, he is in the vein . His family has only one request - 'If there were regular checks at the checkpoints, then maybe he would not have drunk and driven!' He is not the only one in this village who suffers his family by drinking alcohol, there are many of them.

These are some representative events seen in a small village in the Far West. In every home here, women are forced to live with some kind of pain. There are no hospitals near the house. Even if there is a hospital somewhere, there is no transport facility to reach the hospital .

A 50-year-old woman from Bajur fell and got injured after going to the forest to cut grass on May 26. He suffered severe chest injuries and died while undergoing treatment at Kolti Hospital. Similarly, on June 9, a 34-year-old woman from Surnaya in Baitadi died on the spot after falling from a tree while cutting grass. His seven-year-old and six-month-old son became orphans.  To break the story, the pain of women is not less in any part of the world. Along with his personal life, he is also handling the responsibility of the household, children and the office. Comparatively, the sufferings of women in remote areas are slightly different and more. They are also suffering from different kinds of pain of having to menstruate and still having to sleep side by side.

Many such families would be benefited if they could sometimes go to the village and conduct health camps for patients who cannot go to the hospital or where there is no transportation facility. Free health camps are conducted in places where there are large hospitals with facilities near home. But where there is a real need for such camps, such camps do not seem to have reached.

If the republic came to understand the needs of the people, if the country was taken to the provincial structure, then the services should also be provided to the people. Employment arrangements had to be made for the unemployed youth. The local government had to be active in solving the problems of the villages. Only if this can be done, the youth who are going into depression due to unemployment, who are forced to leave the country, can be stopped in their own villages . If we can create jobs from villages to cities by teaching different skills and training to the youth instead of loans, the suffering of women who are forced to stay alone at home would be reduced!
