Elections for the new executive committee of the Independent Students' Union were held on Tuesday at the affiliated and affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University. Such trends reveal the character of student politics in large part, if not in its entirety. It is because of this tendency that questions are raised about student politics in particular. In order to improve this trend, political parties, leaders with good tendencies within the student organization, campus administration and civil society should take the lead.

Even though not all the campuses are where the elections should be, the Swaviyu elections have been completed on Tuesday. The rest of the campuses will also be held in the coming days. It can also be considered as a regular election. However, it is expected that the student organization and SWVYU working committee will use this election as a starting point to improve their image. Because, it has been a long time since our student organization has ceased to be recognized because of academic issues and instead has started to be discredited as a stronghold of Baahubali. Student organizations may have to lead political and social issues especially at times when political parties are unable to function.

Innumerable educational issues in the country have gone beyond the mainstream of debate, so they can lead to bring them back to the mainstream. It also helps to brighten the image of the student organization itself. At that time, they will be a firm organization of students.

The policy of political parties towards student organization needs to be changed now. They should not only use the students as their activists, but should aim to make them the mediators of educational issues. The tendency to involve the entire party and factions within the party even to get a ticket in the Swaviyu elections, and to use power to win should be abandoned.
