Why increasing divorce?

Hinduism defines marriage as a sacred bond. It has been analyzed that once a couple gets married, they have an unbreakable bond for up to seven years. But now marriage is also considered as a 'contact'. The process of marrying according to one's needs and divorcing against one's will is also increasing rapidly in Nepali society.

Nowadays, even marriage has become like a system of accounting for its profits and losses with us. Especially those who go out on 'Dependen' visas go to the court without knowing their families and get married and later divorce against their will and marry other boys or girls. Divorce is becoming fashionable now. Videos of some people celebrating by cutting a cake saying 'Happy Divorce Day' are also being released. A video of a woman laughing and holding a wad of money while getting a divorce can also be seen on social media.

Such activities have a bad impact on the society. It is also heard that some people's families are broken. This does not mean that we should tolerate any kind of violence, but both husband and wife should not stop respecting, loving and caring for each other. Problems in life should be solved together. Fighting does not solve problems. Only a peaceful discussion will help to solve the problem.  There are different stages of

divorce. At first there is rejection and discord between the husband and wife, then it gradually progresses to anger, bargaining, talk, the onset of loneliness, depression and finally separation. In this way, divorce seems to happen all at once, but it goes through various stages. Therefore, it is very important to talk, share experiences, counsel and discuss between husband and wife as well as family members. These kinds of conversations bring out the things that are lost in the mind and help to reduce stress even if only a little.

Nowadays people spend a lot of time on social networks, so the time to sit and talk at home is getting less and less. If there are 4 members in the house, all of them are busy with their mobiles and laptops, due to which even husband and wife do not communicate and various problems arise.

Mismatch between husband and wife, age gap, suspecting each other, anger, oppression, beating, mental violence, financial waste, not taking good care, going with other boys or girls, love affairs after marriage, strict about property, patriarchal thinking etc. are also promoting divorce.

Similarly, celebrities get married by spending crores of rupees and come to the media crying saying that there was violence within a short period of time and divorce. It is also affecting other people negatively. Common people do not come into the limelight when they do such things, and even if they have personal and family problems, the impact on others is less because they are not heard in the media. In this way, some couples get divorced due to unnecessary rumours. Currently, it seems that Tiktok, Facebook, and Instagram are also promoting such things.

Both women and men are guilty in such cases. Today's women are also getting used to spending unnecessarily in the name of freedom, parties, make-up, feasts, and living in fantasy, because unnecessary spending causes problems in the financial condition of the family and it sows the seeds of discord between husband and wife. They start treating their husbands as a competitor rather than love, saying that whatever men do and why women should not do the same thing, and the peace and harmony in the family ends and disharmony, doubt, and strife begin to settle in the family. Trying to indulge in the fantasy of a hollow and colorful world, he is left to find his heavenly home ruined.

No matter how capable a woman is, there is no shortage of people in our society who sing the praises of men, maintaining the pride of patriarchy that a woman should stay in the home, be under the supervision of her husband and family members, and if a woman makes a decision, it is wrong. That is adding to the problem. Today's women are capable in every field. Despite being burdened by various restrictions, obstacles, obstacles and responsibilities, customs, they are fighting unitedly for their rights by handling all of them.

As people become independent, they start taking special care of their personal freedom. No one wants to live under pressure. Talking about women, earlier women were more busy with household work and farming, so they were not very interested in the outside world. He did not participate in any public event outside. Even if they had to participate in some way, they would only be passive listeners, but recently, with the increase in access to education, the capacity of women has also started to increase. Hopefully, women are starting to come forward. This is also a positive change in the society's view of women.

The report of the Central Statistics Department has also shown that divorce cases are increasing in Nepal. According to a study, there are more cases of divorce in cities than in villages in Nepal. In urban areas, 1.8 out of 1,000 married couples are divorced, while in rural areas, this number is 0.9 percent out of 1,000. Similarly, 1 thousand 355 divorce cases were registered in 2015, while 6 thousand 644 such cases were registered in 2020. It is gradually increasing. By the year 2023, 50 thousand 111 such cases have been registered online. This fact also exposes the fact that divorce cases are gradually increasing in Nepal.

The study has also shown that due to increasing divorce, the lives of the senior citizens and children of the household are affected the most. Quarrels between husband and wife lead to divorce, but it destroys a beautiful family.

In Nepal, the highest number of divorce cases are registered in Kathmandu district, followed by Salyan and Kapilvastu. Not only Nepal, many countries of the world are under the grip of divorce. According to a 2025 estimate, about 41 percent of first marriages in America will end in divorce. Neighboring country India is in the list of countries with very low divorce rates in the world. According to a 2022 study, only about 1 percent of people get divorced there. In 2025, the Maldives will be the first country with the highest number of divorces in the world. Here there are 5.52 percent divorces per thousand. Kazakhstan, Russia, Belgium, Belarus, Moldova and China are also among the top 10 divorce countries.
