Alliance for trade and development, not military

If the US and Russia had taken the same initiative 3 years ago, there would not have been so much loss of life. It is a topic that needs to be discussed keeping the events of the last three years in the background - why is there a need for an organization like NATO, which is one of the causes of war and damage? Has such organization, formed with the purpose of making the military power of different countries more effective, benefited or harmed the world?

Alliance for trade and development, not military

The world community has been shocked after America stood by Russia in the UN Security Council. There was a dramatic shift in international strategic polarization after the US voted against a resolution holding Russia fully responsible for the attack on Ukraine on Monday. For the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the US stood by Russia.

The change in partisanship is not unusual as Donald Trump has made a series of unexpected decisions since his re-election as US President. However, the previous belief that America's decisions on broad issues can be predicted because it is a country with a reputation for being loyal to its policies has also been shattered. Whichever country

It is natural to make decisions in your own interest. But the change of US side in the Russia-Ukraine war is not a common issue. It envisages a discussion on the sensitivity of the needs and affiliations of military or strategic alliances that have been or will be formed in the world.

There are several reasons why Russia launched an attack on Ukraine. Although once part of the Soviet Union, Russia and Ukraine have been under constant tension since the split. Moreover, after Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, the nationalistic sentiment in Ukraine is naturally rising. Its effect was visible in the election results.

After the election of Volodymyr Zelenskiy as president in 2019, Ukraine's aspirations to stay closer to Western powers and gain membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) increased. On the other hand, powerful Russia was growing in importance and ambition. Analyzing Ukraine's readiness to become a NATO member as a threat to itself, Russia has launched an attack on the sovereign country of Ukraine.

At least 40,000 Ukrainians have died in three years. 68 million have been forced to leave the country and 40 million have been internally displaced. Organizations have reported that 14.6 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Apart from that, 42,000 soldiers were also killed there, according to the Ukrainian government. But according to organizations that compile data from open sources, at least 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers appear to have lost their lives.

Likewise, at least 95,000 have died fighting for the Russian army. This figure does not include the 21,000 to 23,000 fighters killed in the self-proclaimed Republic of Donbass. But it is estimated that 146,194 to 211,169 Russian soldiers died during the war.

Ukraine could not afford to fight Russia on its own. On the surface of Ukraine, there were powerful nations, including the United States, that provided economic and military support. Not only did they help, they were also promising NATO membership. At the same time, there were nations on his side who showed moral support. Only on Monday, 93 countries, including Nepal, out of 193 members of the Security Council voted, and the resolution that "Russia is fully responsible for the attack on Ukraine" was passed.

In this way, Ukraine has been able to defend itself against the attacks because of the strong economic and military support from Western countries and the moral support of many countries around the world. In the future, the reasons for the Russian attack, its continuation and the losses suffered by both sides will be accounted for. But now, it is easy to understand that some parts of Ukraine have been captured by Russia and the Ukrainian physical structure and the mentality of the nation have been destroyed. At present, since the US, the main ally of Ukraine, has become closer to Russia and has begun to attack Zelensky, the expectation of how this war will turn out has increased.

If America and Russia had taken the same initiative 3 years ago, there would not have been so much human loss. It is a topic that needs to be discussed keeping the events of the last three years in the background - why is there a need for an organization like NATO, which is one of the causes of war and damage? Has such organization, formed with the purpose of making the military power of different countries more effective, benefited or harmed the world? There needs to be a gentle review of this. At first glance, the world should now be eroding alliances based on military might, indeed military frenzy.

because such alliances approve the ambitions of some rulers. They work to increase polarization, animosity and suspicion. At its core is the arms trade. Today, not only Ukraine, but also NATO itself is stuck. Therefore, priority should be given to building alliances that help increase economic and social strength. A pillar of international fairness like the United Nations. The European Union is a political and economic union. SAARC is a cooperation organization.

Such associations or organizations help in developing cooperative and fraternal relations between countries. They play a role in the development of relations between different countries at the people level. Increases adoption. They make collective efforts on common issues of human interest such as education, health, trade and climate change. After all, this is the way the world should walk.
