Lhosar missed in Tundikhel

The Gurungs (Tamu) celebrate their main festival Tamu Lhosar on 15th January every year. In Tamu language, 'Lho' means year and 'Sar' means beginning. Which means the beginning of a new year. According to the Tamu calendar, Mupri Lho (Vulture/Eagle category) is leaving and Sapri Lho (Snake Year) is coming from 15th of this year.

Lhosar Gurung, Tamang, Sherpa and Himalayan tribal communities celebrate according to their respective dates.  By the time the

Republic came around, the pronunciation of the word identity had reached a high point. The Maoist 10-year armed movement played an important role in establishing the word. By 2062/063 it had been adopted by the tribal community in one form or another. On the other hand, the forceful slogan of one-sided unity imposed for centuries, 'Sajha Phoolbari', remained.

Jung Bahadur did not only destroy the heritage of shared flower gardens, which was said by King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha, but also legalized it legally by creating the Muluk Act in 1910. The structure of society is formed in the same way that the government creates character.

After the republic, the common flower garden slogan was about to collapse. A certain political group in state power was in favor of the debate. But the republic could not destroy the legacy of common flower gardens. It was established so quickly in a new way, which was adopted as the national anthem and re-written - 'Sayun Thuga Phoolka Bham.'

Tundikhel (in terms of location) was/is a 'revolutionary' place to consider the original festival including Lhosar. It was welcome for the tribe to choose a place where only people of a single religion and caste could celebrate the festival under the protection of the state. But the stage of Tundikhel developed as a place where cats were bound ritually. There are mainly two reasons behind this.

First, not only Lhosar entered Tundikhel, multinational companies also entered. Has Lhosar, celebrated under the banner of its drinks, lost its identity or saved it? In this way, Tundikhel, which is considered to be Lhosar today, is developing as a performance venue for multinational companies. Secondly, the Lhosar of Tundikhel lost its political character/issue.

evolved as a bargaining platform for political party leaders. For example, former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachand', who was the chief guest at Lhosar a few years ago, said that the day Gurung will be made the Prime Minister is not far away. Only a handful of people in the

community used Lhosar's platform. The platform was always used as a place to hope for power but not to debate identity.

Trends in Multinational Companies

Tony Hagen's book 'Decentralization and Development' has an ironic subtitle - Preaching is water, drinking is wine. He hoped that the episode would see western economists and the World Bank preaching about sustainable economy and the people of Eastern European countries would experience a miracle due to free market economy without any contribution from their side. The result of this is in front of everyone's eyes.

In Lhosar, while eating pizza, cheese, and burgers with the sips of a multinational company, listening to a sermon from a responsible person in the country that the day Gurung will be made the prime minister is not far away, is it not like 'Preaching is water, drinking is wine'?

If the Lhosar of Tundikhel had not lost its political character, a new culture would have developed. A new culture would initiate new agendas and movement debates. The new movement helped in building a new society.

After Lhosar wore the veil of a multinational company, the recognition started. The overall identity is overshadowed. Lhosar becoming innocent in front of the multinational company means the identity movement as a whole becomes innocent. Dr. In the words of Hark Gurung, 'The identity of ethnicity is culture, while the hallmark of nationality is universality.' He argued that identity should be prioritized to make each Nepalese sovereign. At this time, the identityist has neither culture nor universality.

Masham, chowmin, pizza kept in the stalls of Lhosar have not only prohibited, but also displaced the original Raithane food of the Gurung community. What can be a bigger shock to those who do politics on the platform of Lhosar in the name of identity? If Lhosar's platform did not lose the political issue, then the Raithane Khana of the Gurungs scattered all over the country would definitely work to elevate Lhosar's identity. If the

tribe could get the original dish into Lhosar's stall, that dish itself was sure to advance the identity movement. Not being able to even recognize that the movement of identity can be found within various dishes is a shame in itself.

On the other hand, the state's discriminatory policies persist in the republic as well. The start of Dasain is signaled through the military platform of Tundikhel on the day of Phulpati with great joy. But in Tundikhel, the tribe has to spend months begging the state to celebrate Lhosar and its original festivals like: Sakela, Undhauli, Umbhauli, Maghi, Bhume. It is clear from this behavior that the state is not trying to adopt the original festivals of Lhosar and other tribes.

Lhosar of Tundikhel is not able to return home. Because, Lhosar has put its own existence in crisis. Yesterday, when Tundikhel came, it was exciting, today it is not. Losing the political agenda, Lhosar has to find his own identity. Even if it is to be celebrated in Tundikhel, it is not ready to go above the business stalls of multinational companies and the political agenda of some people.

What was original with Lhosar is in the spider's web of a multinational company. Those who have been contracted to run it do not have time to fall down from the high platform they have built for one day. The biggest achievement for him is probably nothing more than sitting on the stage.
