All the results of the election held for a total of 44 posts under the by-election 2081 have come. The election of two district coordination committee chiefs and one ward chairman was uncontested. Around 62 percent votes were cast in the elections held on Sunday for a total of 41 positions, including 8 municipal chiefs and 8 deputy chiefs and 33 ward presidents.
The enthusiastic turnout, which took place at a time of extreme disillusionment with politics, has once again revealed citizens' confidence in the system. Also, this election has given a direct message to the new party, which overshadowed the system and made the person a service person - to change the country, not new people, but new culture is needed. Perhaps it is by the same assessment - the voters have not indicated any upheaval from the new or the old ones.
Out of the 8 positions of municipal chief and deputy chief that were held on Sunday, the Congress, which had previously won 6, has lost 4 and secured only one post. The Maoists, who won two earlier, have added two positions. UML added three posts. Similarly, out of the 34 ward chairpersons who had by-elections, the Congress which won 19 wards earlier and the UML which won 8 wards lost 3/3 of the wards. Out of the wards they lost, JSP Nepal, United Samajwadi Party, RSWP, Nemkipa and independent candidates won 1/1 ward. Maoist who won 6 wards earlier has added one.
Although the results revolve around the major parties, one trend in the election results is interesting. In 2079, the same party has won only a few places. This tendency is more visible in the Ward President. For example, in 2079, when there were by-elections in 6 places won by Maoist, he lost in 5 places he won earlier and won 5 new places. The same style of voters is also seen in the case of Congress and UML candidates. From this, the number of representation of that party nationwide is seen to be around the same as before, but in the places where they won before, the dissatisfaction of the voters towards their working style has been revealed. Therefore, the party and representative have changed. The new representative sought by the voters has been asked by the old party. The competing parties were not able to present any such national plan for good governance and prosperity in this election, so the voters did not give the results that could be seen across the country. The results say that voters have changed their representatives based on local issues and commitments. It is also the best democratic practice to make the people's representatives commit to the people, not 'upwards'.
RSVP, which has only been present in the federal parliament so far, has registered its representation at the local level by winning the ward president of Kathmandu-16. However, in the last parliamentary election, the RSVP got 7 direct votes (1 more in the by-elections) and received encouraging votes across the country, so it managed to send a total of 21 MPs to the parliament. However, this year, the election results from East Jhapa to West Bajura, from North Dolakha to South Mahottari have sent a message to RSVP to deeply introspect about their party's agenda and leadership style. RSVP also has the facility to take the victory of one ward as a big excitement, but the fact is that the old party's branches, Jaspa, Integrated Samajwadi and Nemkipa have also added one/one ward. Even in Jhapa's Kankai, the rebel candidate of the Congress has won the election alone. Moreover, while arguing that the voters of Kathmandu city 'chose us', what the leaders of RSVP should not forget is that Kirtipur is not only Kathmandu, but also a city that has led some political upheavals. However, when there are elections for mayor and two ward presidents, the RSVP has not been able to manage to raise candidates.
Raswapa leaders have been active in the election campaign by reaching villages, cities, slums, but it is also necessary to review why they did not come to contest anywhere except one ward when they nominated 26 positions. The fact that RSVP or any other political party should understand is that a democratic election is an exchange of resolve and trust between the party and the voters. However, he could not present any resolutions in return for the rise he got in the last parliamentary elections, so he was unable to instill confidence in the voters. Therefore, if the traditional party structure is to be truly challenged, the RSVP must pave the way for 'course correction', for which integrity in policy and leadership must be a prerequisite. This election has given a clear guidance that new politics cannot be done with the style of old parties being the same as us.
