To facilitate border management and control possible illegal activities in border areas, as well as to collect information, the Armed Police Force has deployed Border Interaction Teams (BIT) at six locations along the border.
Since July 25, BITs have been deployed at the main border points of the country: Kakarbhitta in Jhapa, Rani in Morang, Birgunj in Parsa, Danda in Rupandehi, Jamunaha in Banke, and Gaddachauki in Kanchanpur. According to Senior Superintendent Gopal Adhikari, chief of the Armed Police Force No. 28 Battalion, Kapilvastu, a team of 14 personnel under the command of an Armed Police Inspector has been deployed at each location. These teams will be stationed at the border security posts of the Armed Police in those areas and will be deployed at the main border points in plain clothes (safari suits).
Inspector General of the Armed Police Force Narayan Dutta Paudel inaugurated the deployment of the teams on Sunday by visiting the Armed Police Border Security Post at Danda in Rupandehi. He also provided necessary instructions to the teams. These teams will primarily facilitate the movement of women, children, and senior citizens in the border areas. Similarly, they will work strictly to control and rescue victims of human trafficking, monitor, control, and inspect the smuggling of prohibited drugs and wildlife trophies.
The teams are said to work in coordination with concerned agencies and other security bodies deployed in the border areas to help prevent and control possible criminal activities in the border regions. Each team deployed at the main border points will include a female armed police officer in each shift and will operate in plain clothes from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
