A three-year-old boy died after being buried when a landslide struck a house in Pulu Bazaar, Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality–5 of Mugu on Saturday morning. His parents sustained minor injuries in the incident. Due to the landslide, eight more houses in Pulu Bazaar have also been put at risk.
According to the District Police Office, at around 4 a.m., a landslide with rocks fell from above Pulu Bazaar, completely burying the house of local resident Pema Lama. The house had been rented by 32-year-old Jagnath Baduwal of Chhayanath Rara Municipality–13, Tirp, who was running a hotel there, along with his 27-year-old wife Srijana Baduwal and their three-year-old son Ramesh Baduwal. All three were caught in the landslide.
The landslide completely destroyed Pema Lama’s house. In addition, after eight more houses in Pulu Bazaar were put at risk, the families living there were relocated to safe locations, according to Police Chief DSP Raviraj Thapaliya. Most of the affected families have taken shelter in relatives’ homes, while some have been accommodated at the Pulu Health Post.
