The Krishna Temple Management Committee has requested Dr. Govinda KC, who has begun his 24th hunger strike in Dhangadhi, to vacate the place where he is staging his protest. Dr. KC, who began his satyagraha on Thursday at the dharmashala in the temple premises, was formally asked by the committee in writing to leave the location.
The Dharmashala Management Committee stated that holding a hunger strike at a religious site has increased security sensitivities and that they have come under pressure from various parties. The committee claims that KC had initially only requested permission to stay, but later began his hunger strike without informing them.
Dr. KC’s associate, Dr. Amrit Jaisi, however, expressed surprise at the committee’s move. Claiming that the satyagraha was started with prior notification, he suggested that there might be external influence behind the current pressure to vacate the premises. “A letter has come from the management committee to vacate the dharmashala. Dr. KC is still here. We have not yet considered any other options,” he said. According to him, Dr. KC has said that if the management truly wants him to leave, he is ready to do so.
KC began his hunger strike on Thursday with a five-point demand, including the annulment of appointments at Martyr Dasharathchand Health Science University. With the indefinite hunger strike now underway, it remains uncertain where KC will move next.
