The government has decided to appoint Basudev Acharya, a judge at the High Court Tulsipur, as the Chairperson of the Special Court. The Judicial Council had, on the 32nd of Asar, recommended Acharya for the position after transferring Sudarshanadev Bhatt, the then Chairperson of the Special Court. Acharya has been appointed as Chairperson of the Special Court in accordance with the legal provision that the government appoints based on the Judicial Council's recommendation.
The Council had transferred 50 judges from the High Court and 157 judges from the District Court at once. The Chairperson of the Special Court was also included in this transfer. The Special Court has a team of six judges. With two benches formed, the Special Court hears cases related to money laundering and corruption.
Previously, Acharya was serving at the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur. While in Butwal, on the 3rd of Poush 2082, the bench of Acharya and another judge, Tejnarayan Paudel, ordered the release on bail in the Supreme Cooperative embezzlement case during a hearing.
The bench ordered that a bank guarantee of 27,484,000 rupees, equivalent to the embezzled amount, be secured and that the accused be released upon depositing bail equivalent to the embezzled sum. Following this order, Rabi Lamichhane was released on bail.
In the Supreme Cooperative case, four individuals were collectively held liable for an embezzled amount of 101,936,000 rupees. Lamichhane's share was covered by a bank guarantee of 27,484,000 rupees.
Judge Acharya was transferred to the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur in Bhadra 2081. From the Butwal bench, Judge Acharya had been on deputation at the Supreme Court since the 4th of Jestha.
For his transfer from the position of Chairperson of the Special Court, Judge Bhatt had submitted an application to Chief Justice and Council Chairperson Manoj Kumar Sharma.
Similarly, the Cabinet meeting also decided to appoint Dipendra Adhikari, a judge at the High Court Surkhet, as the Chairperson of the Labor Court.
