The Department of Foreign Employment has announced that individuals who have fallen victim to foreign employment fraud will no longer need to come to Kathmandu to file a complaint. Starting Tuesday, they will be able to register complaints online with supporting evidence.
The department has established a separate online system related to the complaint and case management system. Through this, victims or their family members can file complaints from within Nepal or abroad regarding issues such as being charged money for foreign employment but not being sent abroad, being charged more than the stipulated fees, having their passports confiscated, or not receiving the job, salary, or benefits as per the contract agreement abroad.
Director General Mira Acharya of the department stated that complaints submitted online will be processed by the relevant branch, which will then proceed with the investigation.
“There are three branches in the department to investigate complaints: monitoring, rescue, and case branches. The complaint goes to the branch it is related to,” said Director General Acharya. “After investigation, complaints that are eligible for registration will be registered.”
She added that after registration, the complainant will be called to the department at a scheduled time.
The department stated that the system will make the case and complaint management process of the Department of Foreign Employment faster, more efficient, simple, accessible, and victim-friendly, will organize the records of the action process, and will inform the concerned complainant about the status of their case or complaint via email and SMS.
Complaints related to foreign employment can be filed at all 77 District Administration Offices. Since the complaint process will be handled by the respective district, complainants will no longer be compelled to travel to Kathmandu. Ordinary cases of foreign employment fraud within the district will be settled locally, and only cases that cannot be settled or are of a serious nature will be investigated by the Department of Foreign Employment, ensuring this arrangement.
This will make it easier to provide justice to victims of foreign employment fraud, to provide relief and compensation to workers going for or already engaged in foreign employment, and to rescue stranded workers.
The department receives more individual complaints than institutional ones.
