Three people have been arrested on charges of fraud, accused of promising to release Chinese nationals held in the custody of the Department of Immigration.
Those arrested are former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Armed Police Force Nepal Gopal Kumar Gurung, artist Narad Prasad Khatriwada, and Bikram Bahadur Thapa, a permanent resident of Udayapur currently living in Nakkhipot, Lalitpur.
According to SSP Santosh Khadka, a team from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested them in Kathmandu. "We had started an investigation after receiving information about bargaining to release the Chinese nationals, and they were arrested in the course of that investigation," he said.
The Department of Immigration had arrested nine Chinese nationals on 12 Asar. Police investigations have revealed that a deal was made to release them and also issue 15 passports, for which 7.2 million rupees was agreed upon. Information had reached the police that they had already received 900,000 rupees.
In the course of this, they were arrested and sent to the District Police Range, Bhadra Kali for further investigation, according to police.
