A committee formed by the police to investigate the incident of Ganesh Nepali, who doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire in front of the Passport Department in Tripureshwor, has recorded statements from 21 people.
The committee led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Govinda Thapaliya of the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, recorded the statements of eyewitnesses, city police employees and others. According to a member of the
committee, the statements of the family members are yet to be recorded. ‘We could not talk to them at that time because they were in mourning, we are preparing to talk to them after a few days,’ he said, ‘We are investigating how the incident happened so far, who was at fault.’ The
committee has also analyzed the CCTV footage of the time of the incident. According to a member of the committee, it is clear that Ganesh reached the passport department to pick up the passengers at around 11 am on Ashad 25. After dropping off the passengers in front of Gate No. 2, a female city police officer asked them not to stop the motorcycle there while they were waiting for another ‘ride request.’ During that, an argument broke out between the two and after some time, the police concluded that the city police applied a ‘wheel lock’ to the motorcycle.
