A complaint has been filed against the proposed Chief Election Commissioner Man Bahadur Karki. The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (Joint) held on Tuesday has opened the complaint filed against Karki.
No complaint has been filed against the proposed Election Commissioners Guru Prasad Wagle and Rajiv Subba, informed the committee chairman Bodh Narayan Shrestha. According to him, only one complaint has been received against Karki out of the 10 days of issuing a public notice as per the constitutional provisions.
The committee has also received a suggestion regarding the hearing process. The committee has approved the proposal to open the complaint received against Karki as per Section 16 of the Parliamentary Hearing Committee Procedures, 2083 and distributed the complaint to the members.
According to Chairman Shrestha, Bheshraj Bhuytel, a resident of Tansen-9, Palpa, has registered a complaint demanding that Karki not be approved as the Chief Election Commissioner, reject the recommendation and conduct a detailed investigation. Chairman Shrestha informed that the complainant did not request that his identity not be kept confidential. Similarly, Ujwal Krishna Shrestha of Lalitpur has suggested that the hearing process be decided by a ballot instead of a majority-minority vote.
The committee has set the date for discussion on the complaints received, bringing the complainants to the table if necessary, discussing with the proposed persons, and hearing the proposed persons on July 12 and 13.
