Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said that the government is committed to promoting the domestic footwear industry, replacing imports, creating jobs and promoting exports.

In a discussion with the officials and members of the Footwear Manufacturers Association of Nepal (FMAN) at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Friday, Prime Minister Shah said that the government is committed to providing the necessary policy and institutional facilitation.

He said that skill-based training related to footwear manufacturing will be conducted in coordination with the three levels of government, and the private sector will be encouraged for branding, marketing and market promotion of Nepali footwear, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat.

In addition, he said that the tracking and record management of raw material imports will be made effective according to the production capacity of the industry and special emphasis will be placed on the use, promotion and market expansion of domestic products.
