In one year, 22 rhinos have died in Chitwan National Park and National Forest Area. By the end of Ashar in the fiscal year 2082/83, 20 rhinos have died in the park area and 2 in the national forest area.

According to Avinash Thapa Magar, information officer of the park, 2 rhinos died due to electrocution, while the others died due to natural causes. It is reported that the rhinos died due to electrocution near Lokaha Khola in Madi and Nawalparasi Sustapur.

Also, rhinos have died due to electrocution in the buffer zone in Madi and the national forest area in Nawalparasi. He informed that other rhinos died due to getting stuck in swamps, fighting, being eaten by tigers, old age, etc.

In the fiscal year 2081/82, 30 rhinos died due to natural causes. Of these, 2 were in the national forest area, while the others died in the park and buffer zone. According to the 2021 census, there were 694 adult rhinos in Chitwan National Park.
