The Israeli government has sent the priority list of 1,115 people selected to go to Israel as caregivers working in long-term care centers to the Department of Foreign Employment. Of these, 75 percent are men and 25 percent are women. The department will start the process of sending them to Israel based on this list. Although an advertisement was opened for 2,300 people to go to Israel, only less than half of them were selected because they could not pass the English language test.
The Population and Immigration Authority of Israel (PIWA) has prepared the priority list of those going to be caregivers through a lucky draw. The Department of Foreign Employment had examined the documents of 1,231 people who passed the English language test and sent the list of 1,140 people to PIWA. Out of which, the list of 1,115 people who met the criteria has been made public.
In addition, PIWA has also approved an additional quota of 800 people for Nepal. In addition to this new quota, the language test will now be conducted for a quota of 1,985 people, which is 1,185 short of the previous quota, PIWA has stated.
‘The selection process for the quota allocated for Nepal will now begin,’ said Shirley Raisin Sasson, director of PIWA. ‘All of this will be done under the labor agreement.’ She said that they are excited to bring in workers from Nepal.
Israeli Ambassador to Nepal Smulik Ari Bash said that Israel’s selection of workers has been very transparent. ‘The labor agreement between Nepal and Israel has progressed effectively. Efforts are being made between the agencies of both countries to implement it,’ he said. He said that work is being done on two protocols to bring in workers in the agricultural and residential sectors of Israel.
Dhananjay Shah, an officer of the Israel branch of the Department of Foreign Employment, said that the work of sending workers will begin according to the list received from PIWA. The department has stated that the selected auxiliary workers will have to work in long-term care centers to care for people of any age with severe physical and mental disabilities. The contract period of the workers going in this way will be for 5 years.
