The bench of Kathmandu District Court Judge Tej Bahadur Khadka sentenced two former ministers Rayamajhi and Khand to prison on Tuesday. Rayamajhi was found guilty of fraud, organized crime, crimes against the state and integrated crimes on charges of plotting to take Nepali citizens to the US by pretending to be fake Bhutanese refugees. Similarly, Khand was found guilty of fraud, organized crime and crimes against the state.
The court on Tuesday sentenced 16 people, including Rayamajhi and Khand, to prison on July 23. The court also sentenced former Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa's security advisor Indrajit Rai, former Congress MP Angtawa Sherpa, former Haj Committee chairman Shamsher Miya, then Home Minister Khand's personal secretary Narendra KC, Bhutanese refugee leader Tek Nath Rijal and middlemen Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Rai, Sandesh Sharma, Govinda Chaudhary, Haribhakta Maharjan, Niranjan Kumar Kharel and Bechan Jha to prison terms. The court had convicted Tek Nath Rijal, Keshav Dulal and Sanu Bhandari on the charge of forgery. Keshav Dulal, Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Rai, Sandesh Sharma, Indrajit Rai, Govinda Kumar Chaudhary, Angtawa Sherpa, Tek Narayan Pandey and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi were convicted of fraud and organized crime. Balkrishna Khand, Teknath Rijal, Narendra KC, Shamsher Miyan, Haribhakta Maharjan and Niranjan Kumar Kharel were found guilty of fraud and organized crime. Keshav Dulal Sanu Bhandari, Sagar Rai, Sandesh Sharma, Indrajit Rai, Govinda Chaudhary, Angtawa Sherpa, Teknarayan Pandey, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi were found guilty of crimes against the state and integrated crimes. Balkrishna Khand, Teknath Rijal, Narendra KC, Shamsher Miyan, Haribhakta Maharjan, Niranjan Kumar Kharel were found guilty of crimes against the state and Vechan Jha was found guilty of fraud. The court sentenced the 16 convicted on Tuesday.
