The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on Tuesday appointed five members of the Nepal Tourism Board. According to Minister Khadak Raj Poudel, the board members are Dr. Sobita Shrestha Dhakal (Health Tourism), Pemba Sherpa (ATK Expedition), Khum Bahadur Subedi (Former TAAN Chairman), Santosh Pokharel (Pokhara hotelier) and Srijana KC (IT and Wellness Tourism Expert).
The recommendation committee formed by the ministry had evaluated more than 1,100 applications and recommended 10 names. Five members were appointed from the same list through a ministerial decision. The tenure of the newly appointed members will be three years.
The coordinator of the member selection recommendation committee was Ram Krishna Lamichhane, Director General of the Department of Tourism. The members of the committee were Arvind Kumar Jha and Purna Kumar Sherpa.
According to the structure of the tourism board, in addition to 5 members from the private sector, there will also be 5 ex-officio government members on the board. The secretary of the Ministry of Tourism will be the chairman of the board, while the chief executive officer (CEO) will be the member secretary. Minister Poudel informed that the selection process will now be taken forward as the CEO position is currently vacant.
