UML lawmaker Yashuda Kumari Baral has objected to what she called the government's inhumane treatment of squatters.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, she questioned the government, asking whether pushing squatters onto the streets constitutes a violation of their human rights. MP Baral also urged the government to ensure the squatters' right to live.
“Are squatters not citizens? Do they not have the right to live? When you hand them 25,000 rupees and push them onto the street, is that not a violation of human rights? Do they not have the right to live freely? And the tears of these poor people will be very costly. I want to draw the attention of the government and the concerned parties to this matter,” she said.
