UML central member Mahesh Bartola has commented that decisions made by the party’s legitimate structures cannot be rejected, and that there is no justification for creating disputes over the leadership elected through the general convention.
Bartola made this remark while speaking to journalists at the party’s central office on Thursday. He stated that the party’s leadership would move forward according to the legitimate process established by the 11th General Convention. He said that the selection of leadership would be conducted according to the party’s established legal structure, procedures, and practices, and that decisions made by the general convention cannot be rejected on the basis of personal desires or dissatisfaction. He also said that there is no alternative to uniting the party under the leadership of KP Sharma Oli by resolving the internal contradictions seen within the party.
“There is no dispute over who will lead the party. Just recently, our party’s 11th General Convention made a decision in favor of the party statute. Therefore, within communist parties, there is a unique legal structure, procedure, and practice for leadership formation,” he said. “The party’s unity should be built on the foundation of the decision made by the general convention. Not by being misled, nor by advancing UML’s decisions in a way that fulfills anyone’s wishes.”
He said that some individuals in the party are agitated, perhaps thinking that criticizing the leadership might make them more popular. “Especially at the office-bearer level, and some comrades have been making comments by excessively criticizing the leadership. But what leaders and cadres at any level of UML must understand is that we cannot reject decisions made by the party’s legitimate structures,” he said.
