On Thursday afternoon, Ganesh Nepali, 25, originally from Soru Rural Municipality–1 in Mugu and currently residing in Bhaktapur, poured petrol from his motorcycle onto his own body and set himself on fire in front of Gate No. 3 of the Department of Passports at Tripureshwar, Kathmandu Metropolitan City–11.
According to Dr. Piyush Dahal, head of the Burn Unit at Bir Hospital, he is currently being treated in the emergency ward. Doctors have said that he occasionally speaks a little.
Preparations are underway to move him to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A doctor involved in his treatment stated that about 70 percent of his body has been burned.
According to SSP Dilip Ghimire, chief of Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Nepali had parked his motorcycle in front of the department, and the police had placed a wheel lock on his bike. Upset that a wheel lock had been placed on his bike, he took petrol from the motorcycle and set himself on fire.
After he set himself on fire and was injured, the police immediately rescued him and took him to Bir Hospital.
