The government hospital in Bharatpur started its own hospital pharmacy 10 years ago. Since 16 Asar, a new signboard has been hung at the hospital pharmacy, which has been in operation since 6 Kartik 2073. According to the hospital administration, in line with government policy, a 'Sulabh Pharmacy' signboard has been placed at the hospital pharmacy.
"The Sulabh Pharmacy has been brought into operation in accordance with the government policy to provide quality medicines at prices lower than those available in the market," said hospital spokesperson Dr. Ram Prasad Sapkota. At the Sulabh Pharmacy, medicines can be sold at a maximum of 20 percent above the hospital's purchase price; previously, there was a slightly different arrangement.
Previously, the price was determined by adding the purchase price and the maximum retail price indicated on the medicine, dividing the sum by two, and charging that amount, Dr. Sapkota explained. As a result, patients coming to the hospital to buy medicines paid less than the market price. The pharmacy made some profit, which was invested in the hospital's operation. Now, it appears that there will not be as much profit as before.
Spokesperson Dr. Ram Prasad Sapkota said that Bharatpur Hospital purchases medicines worth around 200 to 250 million rupees annually for the pharmacy.
