The government is set to grant approval for Geta Hospital to operate as a teaching hospital. Government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel informed that Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting decided to approve the operation of Geta Hospital as the teaching hospital of Martyr Dasharath Chand Health Science University.

The hospital was constructed in Geta, Kailali, at a cost of around 7 billion rupees, with the aim of providing medical education along with a 600-bed hospital.

Amid prolonged uncertainty over whether to establish a medical college, institute, or university, the government enacted a law to establish Martyr Dasharath Chand Health Science University in Geta.

The university had already initiated the process in the month of Falgun to appoint 26 professors and 51 associate professors on a contract basis for academic staff. Under this process, recruitment began for personnel in subjects including physiology, pathology, ENT, general surgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, medical education, pharmacology, and others.

Although the university had appointed a vice-chancellor and registrar, they were relieved of their positions after the government issued an ordinance. Last year in Poush, the university assembly had appointed Professor Dr. Sunil Kumar Joshi as vice-chancellor and Khemraj Joshi as registrar.
