Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal has announced that the roads connecting all local level centers and district headquarters of Karnali Province will be made double-lane within the next three years.
Responding to questions raised by lawmakers in the National Assembly meeting on Tuesday, Minister Lamsal made the commitment. He said that the construction of roads and bridges in the Karnali region is a top priority for the government. He informed that about 9 bridges on the currently under-construction road sections are in the process of being taken forward through the 'design and build' method.
'The government aims to expand the existing single-lane roads into two lanes within three years. The work will be started after preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and cost estimate in this fiscal year,' he said. 'A budget of about Rs 27 billion has been managed for the long-term solution to the identified landslides. Work is underway to end the problem of landslides within the next three years.'
He informed that sufficient budget has been allocated to provide safe roads to the municipal centers in Mugu and Karnali, which do not have road networks or have unpaved roads, and the tender process will proceed this year.
