Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Poudel has informed that the government is preparing to bring a new legal system to control the increasing pressure of climbers on Mount Everest.
Responding to questions raised during the ministerial discussion of the Appropriation Bill in the National Assembly on Monday, Minister Poudel informed that preparations are being made to prevent climbers from climbing Mount Everest without climbing mountains above 7,000 meters.
‘The pressure on Mount Everest has increased, and I also agree that if the crowd of climbers is not controlled, its very existence will be in danger. For this, the ministry is preparing an act related to tourism, regulations and procedures are being prepared, and we are now making provisions in it that people will not be allowed to climb Mount Everest without climbing mountains above 7,000 meters.’ This is a matter for the Ministry of Finance to look into in terms of non-tax revenue towards increasing the royalty of the mountain. "However, we are committed to coordinating with the Ministry of Finance to relieve the pressure on Everest in the coming days," he said.
