The Butwal-Narayangadh Road Expansion Project has constructed a suspension bridge to make it easier for monkeys to cross the highway.
A 34-meter-long and 4-foot-wide overhead canopy bridge has been constructed over the road in Pitauji forest of Gaindakot Municipality under the project's biodiversity conservation and promotion program. Project officials claim that this bridge will help wildlife, especially monkeys, cross the busy road safely.
The bridge was constructed because the movement of wildlife will be affected with the road expansion and the risk of vehicle accidents will increase, said Shiva Khanal, Information Officer of the Narayangadh-Butwal Road Project East Section. He said that more bridges will be constructed in the forest area after considering the utility of the bridge constructed in Pitauji.
According to him, efforts have been made to facilitate the natural movement of wildlife, conserve biodiversity, reduce wildlife-vehicle accidents, and make road infrastructure environmentally friendly. Information Officer Khanal said that the project has worked to build ponds inside the forest to conserve biodiversity and provide necessary assistance to control poaching.
