UML leader Bishnu Poudel's habeas corpus petition has been scheduled to be presented before a bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Nityanand Pandey.

Poudel, a former minister who was arrested for investigation in a money laundering case, is in custody under the order of a special court. The Money Laundering Investigation Department had arrested him on June 20 for allegedly having links with controversial businessman Deepak Bhatt.

The special court had last extended his remand for three days on June 15. The remand expires today. Poudel's wife Domaya Poudel had filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that he was being held in illegal detention. Earlier, a show cause order had been issued in the petition and various files had been sought.

The debate in the Supreme Court today will decide whether to keep him in detention or release him on bail. If the Supreme Court orders his release, the remand will not be extended in Poudel's case, otherwise the special court will extend it again.
