The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition filed by UML Vice President and former Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel claiming that he was illegally detained.
A bench of Justices Binod Kumar Sharma and Nityanand Pandey on Thursday gave the final decision to dismiss the petition. Poudel's wife Domaya Poudel had filed a habeas corpus petition in the Supreme Court on July 20 alleging that he was illegally detained.
Just today, the special court had given Poudel an additional six-day remand for investigation.
Poudel was arrested for investigation into money laundering. He was arrested by the Money Laundering Investigation Department from Surkhet on July 20.
The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition, saying that it is not necessary to interfere with the investigation into Poudel through the custodial interrogation petition. The court has explained that it cannot be said that he was kept in illegal detention, saying that it appears that the special court has extended the time limit.
