Kathmandu University (KU) will hold its 31st convocation ceremony (second phase) on Ashad 19. The university has announced that 1,527 students from various faculties will be conferred degrees at the ceremony.

Among the graduates, 21 are PhD/DM/MCh, 93 are MPhil and research-based masters, 279 are postgraduates, 2 are PGDE and 1,132 are undergraduates. Faculty-wise, the maximum number of 504 students will be conferred from the School of Medical Sciences. Similarly, 355 students will be conferred from the School of Engineering, 207 from the School of Science, 161 from the School of Arts, 146 from the School of Management, 112 from the School of Education and 42 from the School of Law.

Among the graduates, 800 are men and 727 are women. In addition, 179 foreign students from Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Sri Lanka, the UK and the US will also be consecrating this time. The university has stated that this number is 11.72 percent of the total consecrating students.

This time, for the first time in the history of the university, 26 students will be awarded the Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence, 3 students will be awarded the Doctor of Medicine in Neonatology and 4 students will be awarded the Master of Science in Medical Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

With the completion of this phase of consecration, the number of students who have graduated from Kathmandu University so far will reach 51,567. Of these, 6,039 are foreign students.

The consecration ceremony will be chaired by Minister for Education, Science and Technology and Vice-Chancellor of the university, Sasmit Pokharel. Since the Prime Minister and the Chancellor are busy, the ceremony will not be held in his presence this time, informed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hrishikesh Wagle. The ceremony will be graced by the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice Chancellor of Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute in India, and he will deliver the convocation address.
