In the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 148.8 mm has been recorded in Hanuman Nagar of Kanchanpur. While it is raining in various districts of other provinces, there has been less rainfall in some places in Madhesh.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in various provinces today and tomorrow as monsoon activity increases. The department says that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall in many places in the hilly and terai areas of Madhesh and Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and the Far West.
The department's Flood Forecasting Division has advised residents living near rivers and inundated areas to be vigilant as floods are increasing in small rivers flowing through Banke, Bardiya and Kailali today. The Division has stated that the flow of small rivers flowing through the districts of Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar, Taplejung, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, Nawalparasi, West Rupandehi, Kailali and Kanchanpur has increased significantly, posing a moderate risk of flash floods.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has urged people to be vigilant as the risk of flash floods, landslides, erosion, flash floods and inundation in the Terai region may increase with heavy rains. The Authority has requested citizens traveling around rivers and streams, places at risk of landslides and settlements on the banks of rivers to take special precautions. In addition, residents at risk of inundation have been urged to move to safer places and inform others.
The Authority has also directed all three levels of government, security agencies and volunteers to be prepared for rescue and response. It has also been asked to keep necessary equipment ready on risky highways and roads.
Currently, the entire territory of Koshi, Madhesh and Bagmati provinces, some areas of Gandaki province and a few places in the eastern region of Lumbini province are under the influence of monsoon winds. In other areas, there is a partial influence of western winds and local winds. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has stated that the monsoon is likely to extend to the remaining areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, Karnali and the entire territory of Sudurpaschim provinces by tomorrow, Wednesday.
