Police have arrested a woman on charges of spreading false rumors by making a prank video that appears to show her friend being murdered.
The Lalitpur District Police Range has arrested 25-year-old Mandira Gurung, a resident of Phalebas Municipality-10 in Parbat and currently living near United Colony in Changathali, Lalitpur Metropolitan City-7.
According to the police, Gurung made a video call to her friend Sushmita Jirel at around 6 pm on Sunday and showed her a scene of killing her friend. Jirel then immediately informed the control room of the Lalitpur District Police Range.
As soon as the information was received, a team deployed from the Lubhu Police Division reached the spot. However, when the police arrived, they found paint smeared on the bed and hands, and during interrogation, it was revealed that the prank video was made.
According to the Lalitpur Police, Gurung was arrested as the act was done with the intention of disrupting peace and security and spreading false rumors. Police have extended his remand by five days from the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, and are conducting further investigations, according to the report.
