In a joint meeting on Nepal-China border security and cross-border crime control, both sides discussed the priority issues of border security, disaster preparedness, trade facilitation and information exchange. The meeting held at the administrative building of the Nyalam Immigration Inspection Center in Zhangmu (Khasa), China on Wednesday discussed the smooth operation of the Tatopani border crossing, disaster risk reduction as the rainy season approaches, and border security.
According to Sindhupalchowk Chief District Officer Shashidhar Ghimire, the meeting agreed to increase coordination between the security agencies of both countries to control unwanted and illegal activities in the border area. 'There were positive discussions on border security management, disaster preparedness, trade and tourism promotion, and strengthening people-to-people relations,' he said.
Deputy Commander of Nyalam Immigration Inspection Center SP Liu Hanwu and Chief District Officer of Sindhupalchowk Ghimire expressed their views in the meeting. Discussions were held on the embankment structure being built under the Miteri Bridge by China on its own and other border security issues, including the collapsed auxiliary pillar. In particular, the Chinese representative expressed special concern about the arrival of citizens from third countries and urged them to be vigilant.
During the discussion, it was agreed to make joint patrolling, border pillar protection, smuggling control, prevention of illegal movement and border security coordination more effective. In addition, the issue of strengthening the mechanism for rapid exchange of information during disasters, cooperating in the early warning system and prioritizing the safety of citizens in the border areas was also raised. The Nepali side urged to prioritize exports through the Tatopani border crossing, facilitate container management and make the coordination system between the two countries more effective during disasters. The meeting was attended by Chief District Officer Ghimire, Chief of the District Police Office SP Kazi Kumar Acharya, SP Hari Kumar Shrestha of the Armed Police Force, District Chief of the National Investigation Department Subhash Karki, Chief of Immigration Padmaraj Timalsina and representatives of the Customs Office from Nepal.
The meeting was attended by SSP Zhou Yongjun, Commander of the Nyalam Immigration Inspection Center, Deputy Commander SP Liu Hanwu, DSP Dun Zhu, Chief of the Border Security and Police Cooperation Branch, and other officials from immigration and security agencies from China. 'The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual goodwill and cooperation, and important discussions were held on the border,' said Padmaraj Timalsina, Chief of the Tatopani Immigration Office.
The Chinese side also informed about the ongoing reconstruction in the Khasa region and the recent impact on the infrastructure and operation of the border in the Nyalam-Khasa region.
