The government has given an ultimatum to the displaced squatters to vacate the holding center by Ashad 12. The empowered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee has issued a notice giving an ultimatum to vacate the camp within 5 days.

In the notice issued by the project head, the government has decided to provide a relief amount of Rs 25,000 to the displaced, and accordingly, they have been instructed to vacate the holding center. As mentioned in the notice, the amount fixed for 3 months for house rent will be provided in monthly installments to the bank account.

The displaced squatters living in the holding centers are panicking after receiving this notice. According to Indra Bahadur Thapa, who is living in the holding center in Nagarkot, government employees filled out forms there on Tuesday as pressure to apply for relief money and leave the camp. 'There was also a dispute while filling the form. People from the administration had come. They said that they should make their arrangements by 12 Ashar,’ Thapa said, ‘But we are afraid that after 3 months we will be in trouble.’

‘It is not possible to keep the displaced in the holding center forever’

Anand Singh, the executive committee chairman of the powerful Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee, said that it is not possible to keep the displaced in the holding center forever. ‘It is not possible to keep them in the holding center forever.’ That is why, until a suitable alternative for land is found, relief money of Rs 25,000 has been sent to the account initially and Rs 15,000 for those who do not have land for 3 months and they have been asked to stay in a place that suits them,’ he said.

He insisted that this was not a sudden decision regarding the notice to vacate within 5 days. ‘We had been trying for a month and a half by sending bank employees to the camps to open accounts.’ But in some places, residents have not cooperated in opening accounts, so now the budget is frozen in mid-Ashar, so we have to give a short time,' he said, 'If it is not possible within 5 days, then the time can be extended by 2-3 days with mutual understanding.'

It is not yet certain that the government will provide them with permanent residence. The government's estimate is that the land can be arranged within 3 months. If the management cannot be done within that period, the government will make the necessary changes or additional arrangements in its plans and decisions,' he said.
