The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that five Nepalis were injured at the Barjan Gas Supply Center in the Ras Laffan Industrial Area of Qatar. On Sunday night, a sudden explosion and fire in Barjan killed 13 people and injured 66 workers. Among the dead were 12 Indians and one Pakistani worker.
‘Five Nepali citizens have been injured in the Ras Laffan gas explosion in Qatar. Three have been discharged after treatment,’ Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lok Bahadur Chhetri Poudel told Ikantipur, ‘Two Nepalis are being treated in the hospital.’
Spokesperson Poudel said that the injured are out of danger. ‘They are out of danger. They are in regular contact with the Nepali Embassy,’ he said.
Acting Ambassador Kumar Rai in Doha said that the Qatari government has ensured quality treatment for the injured.
Qatar had announced on Monday that 66 people, including Nepalis, were injured. Minister of State for Energy Affairs and Chairman and CEO of Qatar Energy Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi At a press conference in Doha, Qatari, Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Kenyan, Ghanaian, Tanzanian and Nigerian nationals were reported to have been injured, along with Nepalis.
According to Qatar Energy, the Barzan plant had been closed for urgent maintenance since December 2025. It had been brought back into operation just two days before the accident.
Al-Kaabi described the incident as an operational accident and clarified that there was no sabotage or hostile activity involved. “Qatar Energy’s emergency rescue team and Qatar Civil Defense quickly brought the fire under control,” he said at the press conference.
