Only 1,231 people have passed the English language test taken for the assistant workers-caregivers of Israel's long-term care center (Betaboodh). 15,626 people participated in the test.
Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment Meera Acharya said that the number of those who passed the English language test is low according to the quota requested by Israel. 'Applications were requested to send 2,300 people.' The report that only 1,231 people passed has been received,' Director General Acharya told Ikantipur.
CIIN International Qualification, which has been given the responsibility of the language test from Israel, has sent the details of those who passed the language test to the department.
Israel has made it mandatory to bring 'B One' in the speaking part of the English language test. Israel has made it necessary to pass the 'B One' level, saying that the caregivers who went earlier did not speak English well.
According to the Israeli standards, the highest priority has been given to English language ‘Speaking’. At least ‘B One’ should be achieved in Speaking. ‘A One’ in ‘Writing’, ‘A Two’ in ‘Listening’ and ‘Reading’ should be achieved.
Israel has set a fee of Rs 5,000 for the exam. The department said that it has started a preliminary investigation into the application for Caregiver. ‘Now we will investigate all the documents submitted in the application and send the final list to Israel,’ said Director General Acharya.
The department has stated that it will request Israel through diplomatic channels to ensure that Nepali workers get all the quotas from Israel. It is not yet clear whether the exam will be re-taken in the insufficient quota. ‘We have some experience on the current issue. We will put that in the conversation with the Israeli side,’ she said.
Israel had asked for 2,300 caregivers. Of these, 60 percent would be women and 40 percent men. Out of these, 1,000 would be sent immediately. The final selection among those who qualified would be made through a lucky draw. The department has stated that the caregivers selected in this way would have to work in long-term care centers to care for people with serious physical and mental disabilities of any age. The contract period of the workers will be for 5 years.
According to the labor agreement between Nepal and Israel, workers will be sent to long-term care centers through the government mechanism. The monthly salary of a caregiver going to Israel is 6,443 Israeli currency (about 347,000 rupees). In this, the expenses for food and accommodation will have to be borne by the worker himself. All the costs of going to Israel will be borne by the worker.
Israel has started sending caregivers from Nepal to long-term care centers since August 2022. Although there was initially a limited demand for workers, the process of bringing in more Nepalis is expanding as the labor shortage in Israel increases.
