The National Assembly's Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee has directed the government to immediately resolve the problems of tea farmers and workers working in tea gardens.
The committee's meeting held on Thursday gave such instructions. Committee Chairman Krishna Prasad Poudel drew the government's attention to immediately addressing the problems seen in the tea sector. Along with resolving the problems of tea farmers and workers, he urged the government to make the price determination and market management of cash crops including cardamom, betel nut, turmeric, ginger, coffee and other cash crops effective.
Chairman Poudel also urged the government to make necessary legal arrangements to develop a systematic market system for these crops, saying that farmers producing cash crops are not getting fair prices and assured markets.
'I would also like to request that the problems of tea farmers and workers working in tea gardens be resolved immediately and I would also like to give instructions on behalf of this committee,' he said. 'I would also like to request that a law be brought within this session for the market management of cash crops. ’
