Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that the Nepali Army was not used in the process of removing squatter settlements by using dozers. He clarified this while responding to questions raised in the parliament during the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday that the army was deployed.
Finance Minister Wagle made this statement while responding to questions raised during the discussion on various topics related to the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President, the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers and subordinate bodies, the Ministry of Defense and the National Planning Commission during the topic-based discussion on the Appropriation Bill, 2083 BS in the meeting.
During the discussion, lawmakers had questioned the Prime Minister about the use of the Nepali Army in the process of removing squatter settlements. He clarified that the Nepal Police has coordinated with the local level, arranged security and facilitated the relocation of squatters in risky areas to safe places.
On that occasion, Finance Minister Wagle also clarified that the presence of the Nepal Army and other security agencies in all parts of the country, as required, is in place in accordance with the national security policy and the orders and directives of the Government of Nepal to protect the country's geographical integrity and borders.
